Our mission is to enhance the academic experiences of undergraduates who are first-generation and from lower-income backgrounds. Our programming and initiatives provide students with holistic support to promote their full participation in the university’s intellectual communities. The office also fosters socioeconomic inclusion at Duke by coordinating resources and support strategies with campus partners to meet the needs of the 1G/LI community.
As a result of our work, 1G/LI students are better positioned to:
- Build meaningful relationships with faculty members
- Successfully Navigate Duke’s intellectual and social networks
- Use campus resources that support their academic journey
Our Commitment to Anti-Racism
The DukeLIFE office is committed to being actively anti-racist in all aspects of our work to dismantle white supremacy and systemic racism. Our office supports students from the broad spectrum of identities that exist at the intersection of social class and race, including ethnicity, national origin, religion, linguistic background, gender identity, sexuality, and physical ability. We seek to cultivate an environment for both students and staff that affirms that inherent dignity of all people and fosters their success.
