This episode follows current student besties Luis Periera Lazo (T’27) and Gabriela Mendoza as they have a candid conversation about their leadership roles in extracurricular clubs, their biggest changes since arriving to Duke, and their friendship. Support systems are crucial to the college experience, and peer support through quality friendships in college are highly underrated. Luis and Gabby display the ways friendships in college support and challenge students to grow.

Gabriela Mendoza is a sophomore at Duke majoring in Public Policy with a minor in Environmental Science and Policy. She is originally from Queens, New York and is Dominican and Ecuadorian. In the future she hopes to peruse a career that intersects the importance of environmental justice and public policy.

Luis Pereira-Lazo is a first-generation student who is persistent in chasing his dream to become an immigration lawyer. Part of class 27', Luis is majoring in public policy, with two minors in journalism and media studies and education, and a human rights certificate. He is continuously motivated by his community to work hard and chase his dreams. As a proud child of Honduran immigrant parents, Luis has seen the challenges families can endure by the barriers of non-U.S. citizenship. Acknowledging these systematic barriers, Luis has made it his mission to work towards a better society for all community members. As he continues his educational endeavors at Duke University, Luis has put his work ethic into organizations and programs that align with his passions, such as the Equity and Outreach Committee in DSG, Beyond Borders, Mi Gente, and many more!
