Course Materials Assistance

Announcement: The Course Materials Assistance program is closed for Summer 2022. We will reopen the application for in the fall.

The DukeLIFE office has limited funding to provide access to course materials for students with demonstrated highest financial need as indicated in their need-based aid records. This program is intended to assist students with acute needs and does not support textbooks for an entire semester.  Funding is limited. We will support as many students as we can.

Eligibility:
  • DukeLIFE undergraduates actively enrolled in Trinity or Pratt and who have demonstrated high financial need as indicated in their financial aid records. The DukeLIFE office notified all students who meet the financial eligibility criteria for the 2021-2022 academic year via email on September 16, 2021. Check your email for receipt of this communication to confirm your eligibility before applying. Students may also write dukelife@duke.edu to inquire about their eligibility.
  • Students may receive assistance with materials for one course during their time at Duke. We anticipate providing materials worth up to $300 in value per application.
  • Software subscriptions are ineligible.
 Instructions:
  • Please provide all requested information.
  • If the request is approved, DukeLIFE will purchase the item directly. Students will be asked to sign an agreement indicating that they understand that the materials are the property of Duke University. They agree to return materials at the end of the semester and will assume responsibility for their loss.
  • For Fall 2021, applications are due on the following dates. Students will be notified of their status after the deadline.

Duke Libraries offers textbook rentals through the Top Textbook Program, where you can rent out a textbook for 3 hours at a time.
• For course-specific technology needs such as Digital Voice Recorder, HD Video Camera, TI-84 Plus CE, DSLR camera kit, Tripod, Shotgun Mic, iPad Mini 4, a Handheld Projector, or a GoPro, visit the Link and reserve rental equipment.
