What is an ASCEND Coach?

The ASCEND Coach serves as a dedicated mentor and guide, supporting a team of incoming DukeLIFE students as they navigate the academic and personal transition to college. This role involves fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where students feel a sense of confidence and belonging at Duke. The coach will provide insight and guidance on key topics such as campus life, building meaningful relationships, financial literacy, networking, and personal growth.

Beyond individual mentorship, the ASCEND Coach will actively cultivate a strong sense of community within the team, encouraging collaboration, open communication, and mutual support. They will facilitate discussions and activities that promote teamwork and engagement, helping students build lasting connections with their peers. Additionally, the coach will guide the team through the process of conceptualizing and executing a final group project, ensuring that the experience is both fun and enriching. By inspiring and empowering DukeLIFE students, the ASCEND Coach plays a vital role in their journey toward personal and academic success during their first year at Duke.
