DukeLIFE STEM Tutoring Will Reopen on January 23
To support students’ academic success, DukeLIFE offers private STEM tutoring support to complement ARC learning consultations, group tutorials, and the SAGE program.
LIFE students can book up to 3 individual tutoring sessions per week using Penji. Instructions for accessing this resource can be found below.
- Create an account on Penji using your Duke email address
- On the left side of the screen underneath “settings” you will need to switch to the “DukeLIFE” community
- Select the course that you would like to book an appointment for. DukeLIFE supports select high- demand STEM courses
- Select the date and time that works best for your schedule
- After you have selected a date/time, you will be prompted to select a tutor
- Select a tutor and book your appointment

Sessions are one hour long.
Appointments can be face-to-face or virtual. After you book your session(s), you must coordinate with your tutor to decide where you would like to meet.
You can book up to 3 one-hour sessions within a 7 day period.
For additional help, use the Academic Resource Center (ARC) learning resources, including group tutorial, SAGE, and learning consultations. You can sign up for those sessions in Penji.
The department may also offer office hours or help rooms.
No. DukeLIFE covers the cost of your session(s).
Log in to Penji to cancel your session at least 24 hours in advance to avoid being marked as a "no show."
After 2 "no shows," you will be unable to schedule appointments for two weeks and until you meet with a DukeLIFE staff member.
The first step is to request a tutor for the course through Penji. Please keep in mind that this does not guarantee DukeLIFE can provide support. The second step is to utilize tutoring support through the Academic Resource Center. The Academic Resource Center offers group tutoring, SAGE communities, learning consultations and more.
